Rubber legs and poppers.
We are moving into the back half of the summer and this time of year can be a great time to fish for trout and bass. The Manistee river can produce some great smallmouth days in the late summer. Rubber legged poppers and terrestrial patterns can be just the ticket fished with a slow twitch that bass can not resist. The Pine river with it's cooler water temps can deliver some great trout fishing with hopper and foam patterns. Middle of the day fishing typically can be the best when hoppers and other terrestrial insects are most active. Some people put the fly rods away this time of the year not knowing they are missing some of the years best fishing. Get out and enjoy what the end of summer has to .offer.
